Humanitarian Development Program HDP

Yesterday we received an email form our partner:
Why I write you about the fact that I received a telephone call from the United Nations yesterday and they were busy with a big project. This project was about the fact that they need several storage structures in Africa, in Kenya, Ghana and South Africa to be specific. These structures would have a total area of about a 100.000 square feet and they would need these halls for food and aid storage. At this moment they work with about ten companies already but they have invited us aswell.

There will be a conference in Nairobi, Kenya, in October and we are invited to come aswell. At this conference there will be all invited companies who can talk and discuss business directly with the United Nations...

Dear Mr Xxxxxxxxx,

It was good speaking with you just now. As per our conversation please find further information about the Humanitarian Development Program, www.humanitariandevelopmentprogram.org

The HDP is developed with a clear understanding of the United Nations Development Program to ensure highest level of participation from the various UN Funds & Programs. It is fully endorsed and supported by the World Food Program and the UNDP and is organised to encourage greater private sector participation in the humanitarian sector. The aim is to facilitate social & economic development and sustainable growth within developing countries in addition to identifying logistics/supply chain shortfalls in response to global disasters.

The inaugural HDP Summit will take place in Nairobi from the 3rd-5th October and will incorporate a high class conference and specialised exhibition centre coupled with face to face meetings, allowing companies to present their goods and services directly to the UN, Donor agencies, NGO's and aid agencies as well as the international business community.

Every year the world is responding to several major global natural and man-made disasters with increasing frequency and millions of people are affected by disasters where instant response is paramount but coordination inadequate. Logistical problems during the tsunami made it apparent that complex supply chains would be crucial for effective relief delivering food, shelter, water treatment systems and medical supplies from around the world.

It has been decided that within the next 2 years all of the NGOs and Donors should agree on and implement a common concept to be known as the HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE NETWORK.

What is the Concept?
-Central Information Platform on Situation and Needs -Common Humanitarian Pre-positioned relief stock -Central purchasing of major commodities and handling of Gifts in Kind

Six areas around the world have been identified as main HRN 'hubs' namely Kenya, South Africa, Panama, Singapore, Dubai and Ghana. Please view an example at www.dubia-aid.city.com

The October event will centre on the requirements this practice will raise and highlight preferred suppliers for the HRN Hubs. This is in addition to promoting and evolving current public-private partnerships and sustainable growth and development. We will be working with the UN and all the above mentioned agencies to bring them under one roof to meet up with suppliers of different commodities and services to the Aid market.

We would like to offer Armada Vingida a profile at the event that is commensurate with your experience and expertise in temporary accomodation.
This could be done in the form of an exhibition area inside the hall and/or several one to one meetings with an agency of your choice arranged and confirmed by us.
Bilateral meetings:
We have invested huge resources into a web-base meetings software system whereby you will be able to schedule meetings with whom you choose well in advance of arriving in Nairobi. Every delegate will receive a username and password. This will give access to our bespoke events management software where you will have access to a full conference schedule and delegate list.
This will show which companies and organizations will be present, who is representing them and what their purchasing or contractual requirements are.
You will then be able to find the organizations and companies relevant to you, and request a personal meeting with them. Once the meeting is granted, this will be entered in your summit diary, along with any conference sessions or workgroups you wish to attend. This will allow you to plan your summit ahead of your attendance. You will know exactly who you are meeting with before your arrival, more importantly, they will know all about you.

First class exhibition:
Central to the exhibition will be a unique "meeting the partners" area.
This area will hold 30-40 of the key UN agencies, aid agencies, NGOs and donors, with 4-5 representatives from each organization. Please view a full list of partners at http://www.humanitariandevelopmentprogram.org/hds/resource/index.htm. You will be able to meet various procurement and program managers in this area, introduce your company, and find out what projects they are involved in and any pre-requisites for doing business with them.

The event will host an audience from all over the region of Africa, Middle East, Europe and North/South America and above all have representation from the countries that have been identified to be the HRNs. Furthermore, under an agreement with the ICC the HPD Program will see participation of Key Chambers of Commerce worldwide which guarantees a strategic audience for your products and services.

This program is a must for any organisation who is interested in business with the UN, Donors and NGO's and long term, sustainable development in Africa. For further information on the success of our events please click on either of the alternative links below.

I'll give you a call toward the end of the week to discuss this further.
Delegate spaces on the program are limited and by invitation only so your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Xxxxx Xxxxxx

It is fully endorsed and supported by the World Food Program and the UNDP

I have not found any links from World Food Program and the UNDP official sites.

It has been decided that within the next 2 years all of the NGOs and Donors should agree on and implement a common concept to be known as the HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE NETWORK.

I wonder by whom it was decided? It would be interesting to take a look at the document.

We will be working with the UN and all the above mentioned agencies to bring them under one roof to meet up with suppliers of different commodities and services to the Aid market.

They will be working, that is ok but what if UN won't be interested to come under one roof? Is there a list from companies who participate? I have not found one.

We have invested huge resources into a web-base meetings software system

Does it really exist?

This area will hold 30-40 of the key UN agencies, aid agencies, NGOs and donors, with 4-5 representatives from each organization. Please view a full list of partners at http://www.humanitariandevelopmentprogram.org/hds/resource/index.htm

Does "partners" really mean participants? Why "partners" do not mention about the HDP at their websites?
And finally, look what I found trying to get any contact information - "The file you have requested cannot be found." (http://www.developmentprogram.org/contact/contact.htm)
